Coming off a stellar regular season, our U-11 Girls marched into the President’s Day Weston Invitational tournament determined to leave as champions. They fell just short, losing to top ranked Pinecrest Premier 2-0 in the finals.
Due to injuries and relocation, our girls played the entire tournament with no substitutes. They opened with a 1-0 loss to Pinecrest Premier. Our girls roared back in the second match, defeating Renegades once again 4-0. SFE’s midfield tandem of Jackie Delarosa and Gabrielle Gutierrez controlled play, and fed Jessica Leite passes that resulted in three goals. Midfielder Mackenzie Marsh capped the scoring with a laser free kick into the top corner of the Renegades net. Exceptional goaltending by Mica Alvarez along with the defensive wall of Alyson Richardson, Cori Smothers and Ashley Rohloff preserved the shutout.

In the semi-final match, SFE’s girls took on the then undefeated Boca United squad. Our girls dominated the match. SFE struck first on a skillful goal by forward Leite. Leite controlled a pass from midfielder Gutierrez, turned on the Boca United defender, dribbled passed her, and blasted a shot by the goalkeeper. SFE waste no time scoring its next goal when midfielder Delarosa knocked home a pass from Marsh. Leite scored the game winner in the second half to give SFE a 3-0 lead. Boca United fought back, scoring 2 goals in the final 10 minutes. SFE’s defense, however, tightened on tackles by Richardson, Smothers and Rohloff, and brilliant saves by Alvarez.
CONGRATULATIONS to Jessie, Ashley, Gabrielle, Mica, Alyson, Jackie, Mackenzie, and Cori; all of SFE are proud of you!!!
